Day 10: My Favorite Nude Lipstick
#20-Day Lipstick Challenge
Right now, I don’t have a nude lipstick that I consider a favorite. It used to be NARS Audacious Barbara, but NARS Audacious and I had a falling out. I should probably make a separate post on that.
In terms of color, my most liked nude right now is Maybelline Velvet Matte Lipstick in Mat 12. I think it’s almost the same color as Inglot 428, but MAT 12 looks lighter because it’s semi-sheer and my lips are pale. MAT 12 is a sliiightly coral peach nude.
I found the Maybelline Velvet Matte line slightly disappointing because I prefer my liquid lipsticks to set to a matte flat finish.
Applied straight from the applicator, MAT 12 gives a satin, almost glossy finish. I remedy that by either patting or running my little finger along my lips to take out most of the shine. I can live with that because I’m a little bit more tolerant of non-matte-ness with lighter shades such as this. As long as it doesn’t feel wet, it’s good enough.
What I can’t live with — which is also the reason why this didn’t become a favorite — is that this makes my lips feel slightly numb and tingly. I’m not sure if it’s an allergic reaction. It feels to me like how I imagine plumping lip glosses feel. I love it but I can’t wear it for several consecutive days because it dries my lips out.
Also, the product doesn’t cling to the lips, so the longevity is not as good as typical matte liquid lipsticks.
It’s regrettable. I really wanted this product to work, because I love the color. The closest color I can find is NARS Audacious Brigitte or Juliette, but as I said, I’m not ‘all over’ the Audacious lipsticks anymore.
Currently, I’m not looking to replace this, but if you can recommend a lipstick similar to MAT 12, please let me know.
I bought Maybelline Velvet Matte MAT12 at Watsons for Php 299, if I remember right.
