If you’re a true matte lipstick lover, these are the lipstick lines to check out. They are formulated with the least amount of moisture possible to still create what is passable to the market as a functioning lipstick bullet. They have absolutely no shine, they tug the lip as you swipe them on, they’re opaque, and they last forever.
In no particular order…
MAC Retro Matte Lipsticks
The first matte lipstick I tried (Ruby Woo) is from this line — and it was love at first swipe. I didn’t like how blindingly bright Ruby Woo was on me, but I just love how non-wet it felt. I’m sure this started my love for matte lipsticks. Other Retro Mattes I used to own were Flat Out Fabulous, All Fired Up, and Fixed on Drama (I let them go because I try not keep more than one of the same color at a time).
Currently, I only have MAC Sin, which is technically classified (by MAC) as just a regular Matte. But I strongly believe that it is NOT. It’s as dry as all of the lipsticks from the Retro Matte line.

Inglot Matte Lipsticks
Before, I thought MAC was my only option for super matte lipsticks (other then liquid matte lipsticks, which I don’t really enjoy wearing).
I felt bummed about that because MAC’s shade range was very limited (4 shades: no muted colors and no nudes, 6 if I count the 2 lipsticks in the Pro Matte Lipstick Line. This is just WTF.).
I’m happy that Inglot is finally in PH shores because ~ MORE COLOR OPTIONS!
All of Inglot’s matte lipsticks are bone dry (yes!) and they have at least 18 shades.
If you think no other lipstick can possibly go drier than MAC Retro Matte, you’re mistaken. Inglot’s mattes are a tiiiny bit drier. When I first swatched the lipsticks at the store, I didn’t like any of them because I thought they were sheer. I didn’t realize that they’re sooo matte (and dry) that I had to put more pressure to get their true color payoff. I’m so happy I came back to re-swatch them.
I currently own 4 amazing colors. I’m still eyeing more, but the want is not strong enough to get feelings of urgency.
Price: Php 895 at Inglot Stores (Price went up by 100 in less than a year. Why Inglot?)
Make Up Forever (MUFE) Rouge Intense Matte Lipsticks
When Ae featured this, I knew I had to get at least one lipstick from the line. Of all bone dry lipsticks I’ve tried, MUFE is the most comfortable to wear and applies with relatively less tug. Also, aside from being more comfortable, the light shades look great on the lips. I repeat, the light shades look great on the lips. Yes, such lipstick exists and you can find them at Make Up Forever.
I’ve swatched a few but I limited myself to getting just one — Mat 3 (Matte Caramel), a nude-ish caramel brown on my medium greenish yellow skin tone. All other light-colored matte lipsticks make my lips look like they’re drier than they actually are — like my lips are about to crack. MUFE doesn’t. With this matte, my lips look like it got the Marilyn Monroe treatment minus the gloss. I feel like there are 10 layers of lipstick on my lips (in a very good way). This is perfect for doing the Kylie Jenner overdrawn lips technique.
And for all that it is, I award MUFE the title of having the best bone dry matte lipstick.
Warning: Before you go out and buy one of these MUFE MATs, note that “comfortable” for me might not really be actually comfortable for most people. If your lips can tolerate matte lipsticks like mine do; and if you wear matte lipsticks everyday without lip balm underneath — then MUFE would be very comfortable for you, too.

I’ve only tried one — Shady Lady. I do think it’s not posing as a matte lipstick but I’m not sure if I can say it’s a true matte. Melt Cosmetics describe their lipsticks as ultra matte. For Shady Lady, that’s not true. The latter has the feel and the tug of a true matte lipstick but it doesn’t have a flat matte finish. It makes the lips look 3D! It doesn’t have shimmer, it’s not two-toned, and it doesn’t really have that much of a sheen. But for some reason, it makes the lips look like it was subtly contoured and highlighted to have more volume. I don’t know if it’s the same for the other lipsticks in this line.

Nichido Matte Lipsticks
With the exception of one frosty orange lipstick, all of Nichido’s matte lipsticks are true mattes. However, I only liked one shade — Temptation, a deep and not-so bright red. The quality is comparable to the higher end matte lipsticks I have. There are 8 shades in the line: 4 reds, 1 frosty orange, and 3 Nicki Minaj pale pinks. I’ll try to write a separate post on Temptation. I felt like I found a gem in the rubble when I swatched it.
Price: Php 180 at Watsons.

That’s it! If you’re a matte lipstick lover, I’m sure you’ll love these. If you have Sahara desert lips, consider this post as a list of what-not-to-buy.
If you have other bone dry lipstick recommendations (of the traditional lipstick variety i.e., not liquid), please, please let me know.
