Getting Nude with MAC x Julia Petit – Boca

I usually prefer strong-colored lipsticks for everyday because I’m lazy and don’t want to put on anything else.  But lately I find myself getting into pale-ish nude lipsticks.  I blame this entirely on my vastly improved eye makeup skills (that is still not apparent in any of my recent photos).

MAC Julia Petit Boca Lipstick

I know exactly which nuances of nude I want, I just couldn’t find them — a muted light tangerine or terra cotta, a pinky beige, and a muted peach with a little bit of pink.

Then I saw Shari’s instagram (or was it twitter?) post on MAC  Julia Petit – Boca.  Soon after, I read her post on Julia Petit and her collaboration with MAC.

I rarely ever get suckered into buying MAC limited edition lipsticks.  The only two other limited edition lipsticks I bought were Studded Kiss and Fixed on Drama —  both very deep reds. However, there’s something about finding out that Julia-is-a-blogger that made me want to support her collection and make it a success, as if my one lipstick purchase makes a dent in the whole scheme of things.

Whoever said women tear each other down haven’t met beauty bloggers.

Anyway, let’s move on to the lipstick.

I was lucky that Julia’s collection had a nude pinky beige lipstick — “had” because it’s sold out everywhere and “lucky” because having exactly what I’m looking for makes it easier for me to support her.

The color reminds me of Velvet Teddy or Brave mixed with a little bit of Cosmo or Faux or Please Me.  It has a satin finish which I don’t normally prefer.  But I find that with lighter lipstick colors, I’m more tolerant of shine.

That said, I still blot the lipstick.

The first time I wore this, I was confused by how it got darker as the minutes go by. From a pinky beige, it becomes a darker peachier shade that looks more of a my-lips-but-better type of lipstick.  At first, I thought that it might be because the color oxidized on me.  But when I wiped the lipstick off, I was left with a hot pink stain similar to the color that magic lipsticks turn out.  I’m sure that’s what made it change color.

If I didn’t already have more than a few MLBB lipsticks, I would’ve gone crazy in love with this, but I can’t with redundants right now, so, yes, I’m letting it go. BECAUSE I’M RUTHLESS.

I guess I’ll just stick with my original plan — NARS Vanessa (or, if you have other nude lipstick recommendations for medium olive yellow skin, let me know! Pleeeaase! Thank you.)

    1. Thank you!

But I feel like I need to add nicer clothes in my wardrobe to match the daintiness it makes me look. Will go back to your previous OOTD posts to guide me :P

  1. Hear hear re: beauty bloggers and how they support each other! I am still amazed at how much support is out there from women that I will probably never meet.
Now this colour is just so lovely, I wish you wouldn’t let it go :(
May I recommend Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait in M06 Avarice? It is a lovely matte nude with peachy/pink tones – so comfortable to wear, long lasting and a bit of every day luxury. It is pricey but I think worthwhile the purchase if you want something you will get lots of wear out of. And the packaging is so modern/classic/luxurious!

  2. ganda! i thought it was matte at first glance and i was gonna say that it reminds me of velvet teddy! which i ordered that online and im getting it soon so im excited ^^ not sure if you’ve tried the megalast lipstick “in the flesh” its like a warmer version of mac mehr. i dont usually like drugstore lipsticks but this one from WnW looked really go so i went ahead and bought it baka you might like :)

    1. Thanks for the suggestion, there’s another wnw lipstick I want to try out, too, ‘bare it all’. I’ll check both out.

  3. “Whoever said women tear each other down haven’t met beauty bloggers.” I love that! I’ve read some articles before comparing fashion bloggers with beauty bloggers. The observation was that beauty bloggers tend to be more supportive of each other. Not to say that fashion bloggers are snarky with each other, but yannow… fashion…

I actually think the second photo of you looks better! My favorite nude lipstick right now is Rouge Artist Natural by Make Up For Ever in color No. 9. I wonder what you would think of it since you love nude lippies so much :)

    1. Had good experience with Make Up Forever Rouge Artist matte, I’ll add that to the list of products to check out :D

  4. You’re letting it go Rae?! But it looks so good on you!! Even the not-nude shade it turned into. I can understand a little bit though when you mentioned an Audacious lipstick. Hehe

  5. WHUT. Sayang Rae! It looks really good on you! Although, if you’re not happy with the formula, I completely understand your decision ;)

      1. Hmmm maybe I pressed back before the comment uploaded so it’s my fault pala haha not the app’s. Let me try to remember what I wrote.. Number one was boca looks great on you! I originally wanted to get this one plus the other darker one which I saw from Shari’s post but the name escapes me. Didn’t go anywhere near MAC though when they launched as I still have 4 lipsticks unopened. No nudes there though

      1. Added that to my feedly.

How do you do it?! As soon as I get home, I use my newly bought lipsticks right away! Sometimes nasa mall pa lang ako ginagamit ko na.

  6. I think your oliveness lets you rock this color! It’s rosy enough not to make you look ashen. And I know what you mean by that hot pink magic lipstick shade but I don’t see that in the dried down (2nd) photo. Let go na agad? Grabe sa ruthless!

  7. I love peachy nudes but they can make my teeth look yellow :( I’m not sure if it’ll work for you but I like Rimmel London Show Off Lip Lacquer in Luna. It’s a satin finish but I blot my lips with a tissue to make it a satin matte :D

    1. Forgot to mention that it’s a tangerine-y nude that leans a little too bright on me to be a nude. For terra cotta, I really like the MUFE Rouge Artist Natural in N9 or Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Rose Velvet :D

      1. I can always trust you with recommendations. Ill check out MUFE. I had good experience with one of their matte lipsticks.

  8. You look so adorbz talaga omg <3 The only nude lipsticks that I really really really like are Mehr, Taupe and UD Liar (which I kind of hate as well because of how drying it is).

    1. This is the first time I experienced this with a light MAC lipstick. I usually experience staining with plum colors. Sayang lang talaga coz I’m looking for a nude.

  9. When this came out I wanted to get this but I have several MLBB lipsticks in my “collection” that I haven’t even touched yet. No makeup purchases ako since December 2014, yay. Ang ganda mo talaga, Rae <3

      1. Wala pa talagang new releases lately na ginusto kong bumili except yung Audacious lipsticks ng NARS, lintek. Buti na lang out of stock mga gusto ko. Hahaha!

      2. Nagpapasalamat din ako na nung naisip kobg bilhin yung Vanessa and Julie, out of stock na sa mupstore.

What do you think?
