Exploring More “Cool” Stuff: Sonia Kashuk Creme Blush in Petal | Review + Swatches

For most of my makeup life, before I became certain of what my skin tone is, I was convinced that warm colors would work for me. I’m yellow and the internet told me yellow = warm. Uhm, yeah, NO.

As far as I know, I look better in colors that are recommended for “cool people”: blue pinks, lilacs, mauves, blue reds, and plums. These colors make my skin look more alive(?). It could be because yellow and blue/purple are on opposite sides of the color wheel — they’re supposed to make each other stand out.

OR. It could be that I’m Divergent.

I should have questioned the yellow/warm theory when I was just starting out with lipsticks. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Maybelline ColorSensational in Red Revival looks great on me. It’s a blue-toned red that is rumored to be a dupe for MAC Russian Red. I didn’t realize it at the time because I thought that Red Revival is the kind of red that works well for most undertones — maybe it is, but that should have kicked off my color theory exploration.

Anyway, in recent months, I started trying out the coolest of cool colors. Coincidentally, I was also curious about Sonia Kashuk makeup. I looked for her creme blushes and picked out the coolest color from the line. Based on googling, I decided that it was 01-Petal. Petal is a light/mid-tone pastel pink with a tinge of blue.

Used on the cheeks

On the cheeks, I sheer it out, but it can be built up. I just prefer the whisper of pink look on the cheeks. I like to think that it makes me look a little bit younger.

It looks mucky and wet on the pan, but it’s actually ‘dry’ and moussey. It feels like finger-spreadable powder.

Used on the lips

Sometimes, I also use the creme blush on my lips, too. It’s not best used as a lip tint, it doesn’t set — but it doesn’t claim to be a multi-use product anyway. I think the color looks great. Although, I’m surprised that against my skin tone, it looks a little milky and more blue (see the swatch on my wrist vs the color on my lips).

I’m looking for a lipstick in this color. MAC Pink Plaid? Any other recommendations?

Longevity

The creme doesn’t cling to the skin. It doesn’t look like it’s sitting on top, but for some reason, it feels like it’s not holding onto something that could make it stay longer. It also doesn’t stain.

It lasts for about 2 hours on my moderately oily skin. When built up, it stays on a little longer (maybe 3 hours?). But I usually prefer faint blush application *sucks for me*. It’s a shame because I really like the color. Sometimes, I set it with Rouge Bunny Rouge Original Skin Blush in Gracilis.

I’m swapping this with Bec’s SK Creme Blush in Blossom. Blossom seems too light for her and she’s experiencing the same issues with longevity. Hopefully, Petal will show up on her cheeks. I, on the other hand, would like to try a color like Blossom.

Conclusion

I won’t be repurchasing any other SK creme blush but I’m not giving up on SK blushes just yet. Cross-fingers that her powder blushes are better.

  1. Divergent. I also researched the warm, cool and neutral whatevs and made me buy make-ups that just looks funny onvme…mas okay na iswatch na lang para sure

  2. And most people would think this type of color would be fit for you.

Anyway, Red Square looked really great on you. But when I googled it, I found out how similar it is to Lady Danger. Which means it would probably look more orange on me, than red.

I might have to re-consider those velvet matte pencils.

  3. Sorry naman, wrong placement of apostrophe. Sorry na. Hahaha.

I like blossom. Serves as a non-shimmery highlight color :D

  4. Warm and cold hmm… And maybe because the choice of color should also match the personality of the person… I’m stupid in warm and color bla bla, the best way for me to know is to swatch all the shades and find what suits me the best.

It seems that it highlighted your cheeks :)

What do you think?
