Random Ramblings

In My Youtube Feed Vol. 1

I’m currently subscribed to 95 youtube channels. At least 60 of those are beauty-centric.

I’m in the process of cutting down the list as part of an overall life simplification project that I seem to be working on since forever. In my defense, this type of project is a lifelong undertaking.

As I weed through the list, I’m reminded of the awesomeness of not so famous youtube channels that I really love watching. If you like candid vlogs that are less perky-cutesy (???), check out the people in my list :D

I found most of them by searching for lipstick reviews and live swatches. I’ll share 3 to 5 (and maybe 1 non-beauty channel) at a time and hopefully I can follow-through with this thing. Here’s my first batch of three (in no particular order):

JEMORJERRICA

If you’re a lipstick lover and you like your lipstick collection to have a variety of colors, you NEED to subscribe to Jess (NOW!). She’s awesome and she’s probably one of the few people who feels the way I feel about lipsticks — I feel the lipstick love, Jess! I found my top 2 favorites because of her (Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte and Lipstick Queen Velvet Rope).

This is the video that got me to subscribe — My Favorite Vampy Lipsticks:

And here’s her recent one on the Nars Audacious Lipsticks:

NOMADIC MAKEUP

Nomadic Makeup is run by Faith. If you’re not struck by how pretty she is, I want to know what pretty looks like to you. I found her channel when I was searching for fellow NARS Stromboli-toned bloggers and vloggers. If she says a particular foundation matches her, I can buy it online blindly.

Faith is a makeup artist and I think she still works for MAC. She colors her brows all different colors (always done tastefully) and her eyeshadow looks are also as mind blowing. In real life, she probably looks like a gorgeous walking and talking art installation.

CHELSEAWEARS

This woman has good taste with somewhat of a sophisticated tomboy vibe. Confusing, I know. Watch a few of her vlogs and you’ll see what I mean.

I find Chelsea really funny. She seems like the type of person who can tell a totally hilarious joke while keeping a straight face.

I can never forget the story behind why she doesn’t wear gloss.

So, I mean, that’s why I look at myself in the mirror if I’m wearing a really glossy perfect lip and I’m just like — you once covered yourself in human shit… for fun!

When I wear gloss, I kind of almost laugh at myself… like “ehhh, you’re trying too hard.”

That’s how I feel about glossy lips (on me). Plus, of course, how high maintenance glossy lips are. Chelsea is the one to blame for my love of matte lipsticks and for my thing with NARS Mascate.

More Philippine-based bloggers are trying out beauty vlogging. It’s something that’s not for me (for now or forever) but I’m excited for what the future holds for the Pinoy Beautube Community.

If you know other youtubers like Jess, Chelsea, and Faith, type it in the comments section! I’d love to check them out.

  1. I binge-watch and even sleep while listening to Bailey Van der Veen’s videos. Her skin tone and type is universes away from mine but she does incredible eye makeup and special effects makeup, also loves lipsticks (she got me addicted to mattes).

  2. I watch a lot of UK beauty bloggers. Hehe! My faves are Vivianna Does Makeup, Lily Pebbles, Essie Button (but I like her daily vlogs more), Hello October, I Covet Thee and gh0stparties. I like their accent as much as I love their content. Haha

  3. Yes, I’m a lipstick lover so I should probably subscribe to Jess. Haha

There are only 2 youtubers I enjoy watching — even though I am subscribed to more than that. It’s Karima and Lauren Curtis’ channels. They’re both so damn funny for me!

  4. I started my Blogspot blog because I was inspired by video tutorials posted on blogs when I was trying to learn to do my own makeup, but now it’s weird I don’t watch them anymore whereas I can bingewatch TV shows online all day. I don’t know, I guess I prefer reading reviews more than watching them. But I’m going to check out your recommendations! :)

    1. Haven’t been watching a lot of the bigger youtubers, too. Those ladies above, less than 10k subs (except for chelsea, I think she’s at 40k+ now). Will check out Gloria.

  5. Nice recos. I’ve only ever watched YouTube vids for tutorials of specific looks I want to try and Lisa Eldridge (for stuff that I should not covet, but I end up coveting because of how she uses them). Para maiba naman… Haha.

    1. It’s hard for me to follow her color recommendations, she mostly does makeup on herself. although, I get what she says in theory, it’s not as easy to follow. But her tips, I really follow, eg. how to apply red lipstick. I follow what she does almost to the letter.

    1. Tati! I’m not subscribed but I watched a couple of her vids on sonia kashuk and a few drugstore brands, she’s so ladylike, parang nahihiya ako :p

Kandee has a video I’ll never forget, the one about plastic surgery where she said she won’t change her nose anymore because she has the same nose as her dad. Medyo naiyak ako kasi when I was younger I vowed that I’ll work really really hard and earn a lot of money to get my nose “fixed”. Thank universe those days are over.

      1. Tati is always looking flawless. Talagang full made up face with falsies and gloss pa. I trust her reviews talaga, yun lang lagi kong inaabangan. Hehe.

Kandee does the makeup transformations very well. Nakakaaliw kasi kamukha niya talaga, sobrang effort. And I remember the video about plastic surgery. Nakakatuwa lang na kasali yung self-care sa beauty routines ng mga guru. Ang sarap panoorin pag ganun.

I think I forgot to include (in my fave list): VivianaDoesMakeUp, Karima McKimmie, HelloOctoberxo, and LifeSizeBeauty.

    1. i watch kathleen lights too! i actually like the lesser known beauty channel more these days. cause most of the big ones changed or hindi na sila lagi nagppost :S my non beauty fave tho is zoella. i fangirl over that youtuber haha. i even want to get some the stuff from her new beauty line kaso its only sold in europe so i have no idea how pa :)

      1. butting in, me too, I love Kathleen! I also like lesser known youtubers esp those who still have a job apart from YouTube or those who juggle something else, like being a mom or a business woman. I find them more relatable because they use makeup in the context that I’m using it.

    2. I’m subscribed to them too! They are perky in an adorable, non-baby-talking mature woman kind of way. And they’re not much into cutesy looks. Nothing wrong with cutesy, but I’m too old for that.

  6. Ako naman, I first considered doing videos. Kaya lang, you always have to look put together for the camera. Eh kung blogging, I can put out content kahit di pa naliligo. Hahaha!

    1. Dami kong tawa dito!!! Totoo yan. And since hobbyist lang ako, therapeutic for me yung nagttype and nag-iisip ng sentence and nagttranslate sa brain ng tagalog to english. Haha.

    1. I know her! She’s adorable :)

I’m not subscribed but I watch her from time to time. We have different preferences and she’s younger :P I usually watch less child-like youtubers. Don’t know how to put it in words hahaha.

I’ll check out book youtubers, didn’t know there’s a community now for bibliophiles.

What do you think?
