MAC Lady Danger Matte Lipstick Review and Swatches

This lipstick looks orange red on most photos I’ve seen. On my face, it’s a straight up flaming orange.

I think my skin pulls out the orange and the coral in a lot of lipsticks. Both Mehr and Please Me, described by MAC as blue pinks*, look coral on me. Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte lipstick in True Pink, which is supposed to be a true neutral pink, is not true pink on my face.

That’s that — if you find your skin tone to be really close to mine (check my matches here), this could be the orange that could work for you.

I was going to buy Bobbi Brown’s Creamy Matte lipstick in Jenna (see the swatch on Crazy Pop Lock here) but it was not available. I was overcome by a feeling of defeat, which is probably the most illogical of shopping feelings, and I didn’t want to go home empty-handed. I bought Lady Danger and now, here we are.

MAC Lady Danger is your standard MAC matte lipstick. I recently found out that it comes (or came) in amplified formula, too (see it on Shari’s face, it looks bright coral red on her — probably a limited edition release because on her post, it’s in a gold bullet).

They always say that orange lipsticks make the teeth yellower. Lady Danger, surprisingly, makes my teeth look whiter. It’s strange, really. I think that’s why I like it. I was also surprised that I can wear it on a bare face. Many orange lipsticks wash me out or make my skin look drab. This doesn’t. Of course, it’ll look better with eye makeup on but I like lipsticks I can wear on their own.

The problem I’m having with this is that when I put it on, I can’t seem to get the edges right. So I bought a cheap orange lip liner that seems to be working so far (not wearing lip liner in the photo, though). Also, it clashes with many of my clothes. I’d love to wear this more but I can only seem to wear it when I’m wearing white or black.

I think orange is the most difficult lip color to wear, at least for my skin tone, it is. I’d take purples and blackened plums over orange any time. But I’m glad I decided to adopt a why not mentality. Maybe I should try coral next.

  1. Yay for the orange! You look great! :) Glad you decided to go for it. I’m the complete opposite — I’m trying more pinks now.

  2. it looks good on you rae :) although agree ako, this will be hard to dress up with. i wish i can find that perfect shade of orange for me din. orange lippies makes my entire face yellow-ish kase :(

  3. Lip brush! :) Haha ok I get why you don’t like corals na; if the non-coral lip pull coral on you, paano pa kaya real corals! I’ve been liking orange-red lipsticks lately, too. :D Well, just the one that I have. It’s funny but I’m not that adventurous with lipsticks, I realized.

  4. love Lady Danger on you! looks great on your skin, well most orange tones actually looks great on us morenas. I didn’t buy lady danger just coz I already have Mac Morange. hehe ^_^

  5. I agree with Bea! You look great in orange! :)

I want to try Lady Danger (or other orange shades) too but I don’t think I have enough why not mentality in me… yet. :P

  6. You look great in orange, Rae! The difference between Lady Danger and the original blog post you posted is quite noticeable for the better, likely because you went a little bolder! If you don’t want to wear eye makeup with it, you can always pair with a sheer orange cheek tint, no? :)

    1. I tried wearing this same lipstick as a blush and it looked great. :D

I thought about looking for an orange blush but I was afraid I’d get sucked in buying a lot to try so, wag muna ngayon :P

What do you think?
