My Favorite Lipsticks of 2013

I was pleasantly surprised with the lipsticks I ended up picking out for this post. Before browsing through my lipstick stash, I did not already know what I would choose. As soon as I saw these 3 from the heap — I knew that they were, without question, my favorite lipsticks of 2013:

  • Rouge Chic – Sophie Koshize Satinlips
  • Radiant Fuchsia – Sophie Koshize Satinlips

I’m a little annoyed that I couldn’t get the color in my photos right. I wish you could see how vibrant and lovely Radiant Fuchsia and Rouge Chic are. Both of them are very opaque.

I bought Radiant Fuchsia first. I saw it on an officemate and it was love at first sight for me. It looked so good on her. Her skin complexion is about 3 shades lighter than mine, so I initially thought this color wouldn’t work for me, but I bought it still. It only costs Php 240 and at the time, I was testing out my theory that blue-toned lipstick works well with yellow-toned skin.

Radiant Fuchsia is a bright blue-toned medium pink lipstick, it has a purple tinge to it. Please excuse my swatch below, my facial skin is more yellow in person than it does on the photo.

The finish and staying power of Radiant Fuchsia got me curious of the reds they might have from the line.

Fortunately for me, Rouge Chic, the only red in the Koshize Satinlips line, is my kind of red. It’s very similar to MAC Viva Glam I, but much bluer and a little bit deeper. If I didn’t find this, I would’ve selected Viva Glam I as a favorite instead.

Below is another swatch fail (if only I got my skin color right, you would see how well it brightens up my face):

Rouge Chic is also matte and has as good staying power as Radiant Fuchsia.

Lastly, Maybelline Color Sensational in Warm Me Up. This is a color that works well with all colored clothing I have.

I had so much fun trying out strong-colored lips this year that I had trouble wearing lipstick when I’m wearing some of my pink and red tops. Before I explored lipsticks, I didn’t know it could clash with the color of the clothes I wear e.g., I tried wearing a bright blue-based red lipstick with a brick red top and I looked off.

Warm Me Up is a brownish muted pink color that is a dupe for MAC Brave, only the latter is a bit less glossier. It looks pale (nude) in the photo below but it’s actually a my-lips-but-even-toned lipstick. I wish there’s a matte version.

Anyway, if you noticed, I swatched all three on my lips without wearing any other makeup on. That’s courtesy of Bobbi Brown.

In my every lipstick purchase, I keep this in mind:

“If I had to teach someone just one thing about lip color it would be this: Find a lipstick that looks good on your face when you are wearing absolutely no makeup.” — Bobbi Brown

For me, these three lipsticks is a representation of that.

  1. Thanks for the Bobbi Brown tip. Feels like I’d forever remember it. And radiant fuchsia… holy guacamole what a gorgeous pigment! I agree with Ile Odarod. Most of my selfies are taken facing the window. Hehe.. (Your blog brings joy to my day off, I’m currently lurking umm,, backreading. Hope you don’t mind ^_^)

    1. Thanks for the advice. I’ll try that. I’ll have to figure out how to wake up early first so I have more time in the mornings.

  2. I love that radiant fuchsia on you! I need a strong pink lip or something like that. But this is the first time I’ve heard of that brand actually, so I wouldn’t know where to buy it, haha (embarrassing for a fashion/.beauty blogger, I know, but I’ve always been more knowledgeable about skincare than makeup xD). It’s so cheap, too!

    1. Haha, that’s ok, I didn’t know about this too. If I didn’t ask my officemate who was wearing it, I wouldn’t know that the brand has awesome matte lipsticks.

  3. ““If I had to teach someone just one thing about lip color it would be this: Find a lipstick that looks good on your face when you are wearing absolutely no makeup.” — Bobbi Brown” i like this quote :) and i like that you back it up by wearing no make up when you swatched these colors. i have both warm me up from maybelline and brave from mac and you’re right they look super duper simlar! :)

  4. Ooooh that tip from Bobbi brown is so nice to hear — I was doing that subconsciously in my head and it feels great to hear it’s actually a legit tip from a makeup artist hihi.

Love how youre into bold colors Rae! Super bagay sayo :-) Second one is theee best though! :-) PS – ganda ng skin mooooo.

    1. If you haven’t tried mac brave yet, maybe test this to see if the color will work for you. In my case, it was love at first swatch.

      1. They’re exactly the same color. You don’t need to buy this unless you want your mac brave no frost and more glossy.

    1. There’s a Sophie Paris direct seller where I work – like an Avon lady..

I wish I can find an online store that sells it coz I don’t know where to get these now and I’m almost out.

    1. It does that sometimes, when I get a little darker. When I finish the tube I might get MAC Velvet Teddy. It’s matte and it seems like a darker mlbb color. It might work for my NC35 to NC 37 shade.

What do you think?
