These are my first impressions of the several products I’ve started using or have used only a few times.
Ben Nye Banana Visage Powder
You know the rave reviews about this product? They’re true. I never liked powder cosmetics even if I have oily skin. Powder usually looks chalky on me and makes the uneven-ness of my skin look more obvious. This powder doesn’t do that. It also doesn’t look like it’s sitting on top of my foundation.
In air-conditioned rooms, this has good shine-control. I haven’t tried it in the normal Philippine-humidity setting, but I’ll remember to get back to that in the in-depth review. Bought at Make Up Pro for Php 450.00 (cheapest I’ve seen online).
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel
I’m trying to use up something else so I’m not yet using this as my regular nighttime moisturizer (I use the sunblock version during the day). I’ve tried it only a few times and I liked it.
This is a very good moisturizer for our weather. It’s not heavy, greasy or sticky–perfect for very humid air. When I used this in an air-conditioned room, I felt like the moisture it gave wasn’t enough. But since I wasn’t wearing makeup that time, I slabbed on another layer and thankfully, it still didn’t give me the greasy and sticky feel.
I highly recommend this to men who need a moisturizer but don’t want to look like they put something on their faces.
Neutrogena Deep Clean Revitalizing Pink Grapefruit
I found two good uses for this face wash: for removing light makeup and for cleaning makeup brushes. I like that it doesn’t feel drying and is easy to rinse off. Since I am acne-prone, I alternate this with a salicylic acid face wash. Overall, it’s a good basic face wash.
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel SPF 30
When I know I’m not going to be directly under the sun for the day, I skip sunblock (I can imagine some people cringing, specially those who know that I use tretinoin). I was hoping its consistency and feel will be exactly like the water gel but I know that’s a long shot and I was right. Given that, it’s still not as greasy as most other everyday sunblocks. It has a teeny-bitty hint of an oily feel that is probably because of propylene glycol.
As Niko of Neutrogena Philippines said, this is not at par with their helioplex sun products and is not ideal for use on the beach. I agree. But so far I’m liking it because it got me to use sunblock everyday, which is better than nothing. It doesn’t apply white which makes it good for reapplication. (Note: I go out almost every day with a bare face which allows me to reapply sunblock without much fuss).
If I know I need to go out directly under the sun, even just for a few minutes, I’ll use something with physical sun protection ingredients (this doesn’t have them).
If you want to try it out for youself, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel SPF30++ is being sold at 20% off at SM Watsons Megamall (2F Bldg A) until July 15. From its original price of Php 830, you can now get it for Php 664.
Disclosure: The Neutrogena products were provided to me for free at the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Launch Event.
